Relax a little bit, your the blogger not the computer

Posted by Douglas Slingerland | February 4, 2008 .
When blogging on the web, you need to sound professional. Right? Wrong. You just need to sound believable. People sign up for your blog because they believe your information and feel like they can relate with you, like they could be in your shoes and you give them hope. The most successful bloggers aren’t stiff and cookie-cutter professional representatives, they’re just people, and normally they let you know this.

It is good to keep a professional attitude, but don’t let it over ride your personality, show your human side every now and then. As long as you keep successful people as idol’s, you’ll have trouble getting to their position, you need to take them off the pedestal and put them by your side, as an equal. The only clear advantage they have is that they’ve been doing it for years - they already have the fan base and you’re just starting. That doesn’t make us any different from them, it’s just timing.

You can get a glance at John Chow’s personality in his latest post with a video, here he is gathered with a few other bloggers John Chows dot com pho. In this video you don’t only see John Chow’s personality but a group of local bloggers and notice their attitude, they’re just hanging out. As he states himself, his blog is a collection of miscellaneous ramblings, they just all seem to be headed towards a profitable place.

In Shoemoney’s free stuff Friday madness you get to see his attitude as he’s talking about how much free stuff he receives. He’s pretty laid back about and you can see it’s in his home. He talks about what the products are, how he uses them and even mentions his wife. There are various other posts of his where you catch his personality like how he feels about President Bush or customer support. Jeremy Schoemaker is a very opinionated person and it shows in a lot of his posts.

If you aren’t opinionated, then don’t bother blogging. If you can’t form your own thoughts and ruffle someones feathers, then most people aren’t going to care. It’s a love/hate relationship, people love you or they hate you and if you try to please everyone, you will fail miserably.
